For me it depends. For low-level trackers I will give them away to new-ish users, that is users that have been around for a short while but have still contributed to the forums other than just spamming. I figure, we all have to start out somewhere and I won't make many rules when giving out low level invites. When I first got onto torrenting, it didn't take me too long to get a few invites to private trackers from people who didn't request any ratio proofs, but simply trusted me. So I figure this is a way for me to give something in return.

Of course, with some of the mid and high-level trackers I'll naturally be a bit more careful to whom I give them out to. I will look at a users history (ratio proofs, rep, contributions on the site etc) before I decide to whom I give the invite to.

So far this technique has been working pretty well for me too. No cheaters yet, and I really really hope it stays that way.

Yeah you're right. Giving even low-level invites on a first-come first served basis can be a bit risky. And those that do give TL and similar invites out freely make it tough for those of who instate a few rules in their giveaways.

Unfortunately there will always be cheaters and people giving away invites mindlessly. It's their own problem though.

Yeah, you've got a good point. It's a bit annoying that some trackers ban whole invite trees. As far as I'm concerned, they should just ban the cheater and warn/ban the invitee. I mean, I don't understand why I for example should be banned if I invite my good friend and they decide to be a douchebag and give away an invite to someone who ends up being a cheater.

Hopefully most users will eventually be a bit more careful with how they hand out invites, especially for some decent mid-high level trackers. Some of the low level trackers aren't too much of a problem, since they have low ratio requirements but people have really gotta be careful when giving out decent level tracker invites.
