This is off Torrentfreak and it is a great story for those who use public trackers at all and why you shouldn't. Here is the link.

Good article there. Everyone should definitely read it and consider moving onto private trackers rather than public ones.
It's generally not too hard to distinguish a fake file on public trackers because user will report it quite quickly, but I guess the users that only use public trackers probably won't move over into the private communities until they end up downloading one of these fake files and get frustrated over it.

Just to much viruses and slow speed on public trackers. I haven't used any public tracker at all for the past 6 months.

I have no choice but to use public sites for the time being. I'm hoping I can get myself in a position where I can get some private site invites. Only then wil I be able to compare public/private sites myself.
The more I read articles on the subject, including the one linked in this thread, the more convinvced I am that I need to get myself invited.
For the time being I am stuck with the likes of TPO Isohunt Mininova etc :-(

Your just asking for so much trouble with public sites,i personally would never seed from public,at least with private trackers your getting decent people and safer uploads, your speeds are way faster and so are the pre times and content is way better. There are plenty of sites now offering invites to these sites, you just have to be patient in getting in to them. I know of a torrent invite site that is relatively easy to get in to and all you need to do is show them your utorrent statistics, once your in its invites galore but i dont think im allowed to post the link here...lol.
Truthfully, I always use public trackers. I am just now starting to get into private communities. I have never had too many problems, barring the occasional fake and service disruption. Always find what I need, and I have been "torrenting" since the original BitTorrent client came out.
